>> Geoff and I have written fondly about Thailand a number of times, and we expressed concern and sadness after the tsunami. In particular, we wrote about the islands of Phi Phi, which were completely decimated by the waves. Today, via the Los Angeles Times (free registration required), comes news that the islands are rebuilding. More compelling -- rates are ridiculously low as tourists slowly start to revisit. If you can go, you should. And I will be utterly jealous. On a totally inside note: Carlito's Bar has survived. The owner had plastered the island with tacky signs; unbeknownst to him, he became the object of our wrath during down moments, usually while drinking a tasty Chang beer. Even if he is a douche, it's somehow comforting the place has survived.
