>> Nearly missed this one, and it's oh so worthwhile:The Magnetic Fields' Stephin Merritt on recent indie-rock album releases. (A free NYTimes account is required to view.) He calls Las Vegas band The Killers "Retro new-wave Britpoppers ... with genuine fake British accents" and accuses Morrissey of "surround(ing) himself with dull musicians incapable of properly filling out his introspective kitchen-sink dramas." Ooh! Smiths burn!
Come to think of it, how grand would a Morrissey/Merritt television show be? Two erudite, well-dressed indie-rock b-i-otches goin' at each other for an hour, Siskel and Ebert style. I might even begin again buying heavily-hyped indie albums I haven't yet heard, just so I'll know what's being said when M & M throw down. Yikes.
