>> If Marcel really wants to know what I've been eating lately, he can simply check out this guide to Ballard dining. (Or he can buy me one of the aforementioned Japanese toilets.) My Seattle neighborhood was once its own city -- annexed by Seattle in 1907 -- and even today you can live a full and rich life there without driving your car. We've got Archie McPhee, for crying out loud.
The guide doesn't even mention half the restaurants we've got within walking distance -- Hattie's Hat, Vera's Cafe, Great Harvest Bakery -- nor the Ballard Market or the seafood joints by the Chittenden Locks. Nor does it mention that my favorite Ballard lounge -- Dr. Fu Kan Wu's Apothecary, inside Thaiku -- has a vintage Hammond organ, and a cat who plays swanky jazz on it expertly.
