I've actually watched a little bit of the Olympics this year. My nephew (kind of -- it's a long story) is on the Olympic skiing team, so I keep watching to see if they'll show him.

As a result, I've seen some of the effects NBC has been using as pat of their broadcasts. These might not be new, but they're new to me, and include a shot where two skiers are superimposed on top of each other to tell why one shaved a tenth of a second from his time; and another where the home flag of a speed skater is placed on-screen to look as though it is beneath the ice.

Those are cool. The fake fire on the host's set? That's just silly!
