I mean, Peter Frampton knows he's dead, doesn't he? That the real reason the box office receipts for "Almost Famous" were so low is because nobody gives a flying fuck about the life and times of a middling 1970s rock band, the birth of another useless rock critic and the salad days of Rolling Stone?

There's a remastered, resequenced version of "Frampton Comes Alive!" out there. I want you to show me the way ... to have Frampton put down.

Having exercised one of my rights as a former rock critic, I can now exercise another. If you haven't already, give a listen to the theme to the anime series "Cowboy Bebop," the killer rave-up "Tank!" This is what all TV themes should sound like -- big brass, piss and vinegar. It was written, arranged and performed by Yoko Kanno, one of the best soundtrack composers you've never heard. She can do jazz. She can do blues. She can do trip-hop. She can do damn near anything she sets her mind to, it seems.

Even Moss -- the colorful, gravel-voiced owner of the Double Down Saloon -- loves Kanno's stuff. It may yet end up on the Doubledover's peerless jukebox. Enjoy.
